PictureInternational TEFL accreditation
I am an internationally accredited English teacher. I hold the TESOL certification after having completed my teaching degree at The Language House in Montpellier, France. This is an intensive 120-hour in-person course conducted in a classroom with two weeks of student teaching training.

I work with students and clients of all ages and abilities and my specialization is Business English. I worked on Wall Street (NYC) for ten years as an editor, writer and journalist and offer public speaking coaching and writing critique for company presidents, CEOs and others in business.

Contact me at jenniferkarchmer@gmail.com and I will be happy to get back to you with rates and availability.

I love teaching English and want to help you improve! (See the "English Lessons" below).

"I followed the English course with Jennifer and I am happy to have done so. The course was clear, well structured, and the principal topics were covered: grammar, vocabulary, reading and pronunciation. The method is complete and I made real progress. Jennifer directs the course very well, listens to me and gives precise examples to help me retain the difficult parts of English. I recommend you follow her course and I hope that you progress the same as me."
                           --Joelle of Montpellier, France

UK vs. USA spellings

PictureImage courtesy Zoutpansberger via FB.
You will notice the way English words are spelled is dependent upon whether you are in the UK, Canada, Australia or the USA or other English-speaking regions.

"Color, humor, organization and theater" are USA spellings. In fact, here is a very long list known as the "Comprehensive list of American and British spelling differences" (go to: http://www.tysto.com/uk-us-spelling-list.html).

As an example, you see (at right) an announcement published in a newspaper in South Africa, a country that follows UK English. Notice "finalised," the UK spelling, not "finalized," (USA). Pronunciation is exactly the same, but there is an "S" not a "Z."

For your writing, be aware of these differences in spelling. Most importantly, choose one style and be consistent. Review the spellcheck feature on your email or MSWord document to be sure you're using the correct version (UK or USA) for your audience.
